Wow! Thank you for the fantastic set of virtual parent conferences.  It was so lovely to hear you talk about your children.  It's such a great opportunity for me to get to know them, through you! If you missed out on all the fun, send me an email mcmasse@cbe.ab.ca and we can set up a time to meet.

Here is some information about the Scholastic Reading, it is a great place to buy reasonably priced books.  You can do everything online. I have also requested flyers so you might see one of those come home each month.

Next week looks like a full week

We will be honouring Truth and Reconciliation Day all week as we discuss how we want to be treated/feel at school, that Every Child Matters and where Orange Shirt Day comes from. As Mr. Murphy mentioned early this month in his weekly principal's message, the New Brighton Elementary School Parent Association has generously donated funds to allow for each student in the school to receive an Orange, Every Child Matters T-Shirt with the New Brighton School logo.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will receive the order by Sept. 29th but there are no guarantees. We will have our Orange Shirt Day here at NBS the day after the T-shirts arrive, while still honouring the Sept. 30th Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Students can wear an Orange shirt any or all days through the week as we wait for our special NSB shirts to arrive.

We are asking that families consider making a donation of $2.00. Every student will receive a t-shirt regardless of whether a donation is made.

* Tuesday AM kindergarten students will each get place a rock in the Keeping The Circle Strong display.  This was created with the whole school last year and now our newest students will be able to participate.

* Wednesday - Terry Fox Run

New Brighton School will be hosting a Terry Fox Run this Wednesday, September 29 to honour this courageous, Canadian icon and champion of cancer research and awareness. We will begin our event with a short virtual assembly before heading outside to run a supervised course around the perimeter of the school field. All students will be participating so we ask parents to ensure your child has appropriate outdoor footwear for running/walking on Wednesday.

This event is designed to raise awareness and funds for cancer research; therefore we are asking students and staff to contribute a “Toonie for Terry” if possible. Participants can bring their Toonies to their classroom teacher anytime throughout the week.

*Thursday No School for Truth and Reconciliation Day

* Friday PM kindergarten students attend and will each get place a rock in the Keeping The Circle Strong display.  This was created with the whole school last year and now our newest students will be able to participate.
