Welcome to Kindergarten
Dear Parents,
We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Kindergarten! We are Emily Hellyer and Michelle Hughes and we have both been at New Brighton School since opening in 2016! We’ve been working together in Kindergarten for a few years, but we were buddy classes before that. We work as a close partnership in separate classrooms and enjoy the Kindergarten life together each day. You can be assured that we plan everything together and that regardless of their teacher, your children will have very similar experiences and we get to know all the children in Kindergarten. Our classes spend time together most days for PE, outside time as well as in the classrooms for various experiences.
We hope that you had a blast this summer making memories with your family and you are ready for this year’s learning adventure. Kindergarten is a time for children to develop their love of learning, explore the world around them, build new and exciting relationships and step into the world of education while gaining independence. Kindergarten marks an important milestone and we are excited and honored to be part of your child and family’s journey.
The first week of Kindergarten we are doing a staggered entry week where your child will have an introduction to Kindergarten with little visits each day (Thurs/Fri) to help ease them into school. Your child’s classroom and teacher will be finalized on Friday. You will receive a school messenger email Friday evening. The following week they will attend regular hours with their classroom teacher.

Friday/Early Dismissal Days
Students attend from 8:30 AM – 11:55 AM with a Staggered entry (8:15-8:28)
(No School Friday afternoons)
AM Kindergarten attends on Red days / PM Kindergarten attends on Yellow days – See calendar in welcome package or on New Brighton School Website
Please ensure that your child has the following for Tuesday Sept 6:
Backpack (labeled)
Indoor shoes to leave at school (labeled)
Water bottle (labeled)
Small snack beginning Tuesday Sept 6, we’d like to remind you to practice opening and closing containers at home, aiming for independence (No juice boxes please)
Extra set of clothing in a bag left in backpack (labeled)
Label everything with your child’s name
Friendly Reminders
Please keep your children home when they are unwell to help keep us all healthy and for the best learning environment
Please do not bring toys or personal items outside of the ones mentioned above
Please say your goodbyes outside, any parent entering the building will need to check in at the office
For dismissal, please wait until we dismiss each child individually
Moving forward, our classroom blog will be our primary source of communication. Please check for daily updates and to learn about your child’s adventures. We love to post photos of our day, you must sign a media consent form (coming soon) for the teachers to post your child online. We are excited to meet your child in our outdoor meeting space, outside our classroom, beside the clubhouse, the same classrooms as the Welcome to Kindergarten evening. Dismissal will also be at the same location. We dismiss one to one, children will line up against the wall and one by one point to their pick-up contact showing the teacher. Please wait at a distance until we dismiss your child, be ready with a big wave and smile!
