What is a hero?
This was the focus of our day and will carry over to tomorrow. We talked about safe people in our lives and what we thought it meant to be a hero. We watched the story A Hero Like You. The AM class ran the Terry Fox Run today with some fabulous grade 5 buddies and the PM will do the same tomorrow!
AM parents, the morning is staggered entry. Your child can enter the school through their regular doors anytime between 8:15-8:28
Allow me to introduce myself!
Next week we will have an opportunity to have Parent Teacher conferences where you can help me get to know your child. So it's time I shared a little about myself. I was fortunate enough to be a part of opening New Brighton School in 2016, which means I've had the opportunity to spend time with and get to know most of the students in the school. I have been teaching for many years now and interestingly, began my career with a short contract in kindergarten, which I swore I would never do again. However, after having my own children, I felt the pull back to kindergarten and realized I needed to be part of that magic that is held in this precious year and haven't looked back.
I have found my perfect partner with Mrs. Hellyer, we are somehow both SO similar and SO different that it makes the perfect match. Together we try to foster a love of learning, independence, readiness for the years to come and confidence with a good sprinkling of kinder fun and lots of special and memorable days. I truly love my days with the kiddos, although I would gladly take less paperwork.
I am originally from Ontario where I grew up with summers spent in the Muskokas and the brilliance of the colourful Autumn days and the horror of the humidity. I landed a teaching contract well over a decade ago in Calgary and my husband and I drove out in my little 2 door Honda, having never before been west of Ontario, in January. Ever since, this has been home. I have 2 children and a 14 year old dog who keep me busy and on my toes!
I love coffee, chocolate, a good book, a good beach, a beautiful garden full of food grown in my own backyard, sleeping in and watching my children experience anything for the first time. I do not like scary movies, shoes/socks (can't we live in flip flops?) and while I love dairy, my body does not. I'm awful at deleting photos and emails but really good at purging my house.
I look forward to our year ahead as we work as a team to support your children. It will be a year filled with so much growth and wonderful memories.
