Wholly SNOW!! Now is a great time for some reminders :)
* When getting ready at home use the opportunity to teach and encourage independence. You can imagine what the room is like if we are getting ready to go outside and the majority of my friends are unable to get ready with independence. Those big coats are TRICKY and need a little extra time, patience and practice.
* Going outside is an important part of many of our days. We will go outside as cold as -19, please make sure they are dressed for the weather
* Pro tip* Keep an extra set of gloves and a toque in a small pocket of the backpack for when one goes missing or you rush out the door. Make sure your child knows where this is*
Today we tried a new strategy. We followed a visual to remind us what goes on our body first (snowpants if we have them), next and so on. We used a timer. For 5 minutes we tried to get ready independently. After the timer went off we could ask for help.
Today was the first of our Seven Sacred Teachings, Honesty. We talked about a time we were honest when it was hard and completed a journal page . It was a great discussion with lots of great ideas. I shared how when I was a teenager, I scratched my Dad's car and it was hard to be honest but I was. I also shared that I broke a picture in my parents house and it was hard to be honest but I was.
The PM class attended an assembly about Honesty and at the end Mr. Murphy said that the PM kinders were the best audience in the room! Way to go kinders! As a school we will be collecting food for the Veteran's Food Bank. The winning class gets to pie in the face their teacher!
Food, Snacks and Treats
Parents have a wide number of reasons for restricting or monitoring the types of food their children consume. We respect parents’ decisions and responsibility in determining what food their child can consume at school. For these reasons we will never distribute food, snacks or treats to children without the expressed consent of a parent or guardian. We are unable to accept or hand out food treats in a classroom (cupcakes, birthday treats).
