Fun Friday!

Snowflake Art (Squeezing glue bottles and following lines are great for hand strength and fine motor practice)

Assembly for Veteran's food bank.  Mrs. Hellyer's class collected the most items and a student from her class got to give her a pie in the face! So fun! Mr. Bennett, Mr. Murphy and Mrs. Lysak also got a pie in the face as the school collected so many boxes AND a grade 3 teacher and a grade 5 teacher!

We practiced printing our names and some heart words on whiteboards today, it's fun to try out a new way to do something.  Whiteboards were a hit!

We are accepting donations for Warm Feet For The Street!

Below is the message from Mr. Murphy.  Pay close attention to the Fun Lunch/Healthy Hunger popcorn snack that KINDERGARTEN can participate in and keeping your children home when they are ill.

Dear NBS Families,

Once again our school community has stepped up and made us proud by going over and above in their efforts to collect food for the Veterans Food Bank. With the need higher than ever before, the NBS community stepped up and brought in an amazing 33 full boxes of food! To put that in perspective that is almost triple the amount we collected last year. Our students were using the food collection for a variety of lessons in math, health and well-being and were doing their best to try and be the class to bring in the most items so that they could see their teacher get a whipped cream pie in the face.

On top of that, as a school, there was the extra incentive of getting a chance to pie our assistant principal Mr. Bennett in the face if we collect 20 boxes, our Music Teacher Ms. Lysak for 25 boxes and our principal Mr. Murphy for 30 boxes. The students clearly were determined to hit those marks and this morning they were able to enjoy their reward. In addition to those three staff members, Mrs. Hellyer was pied for finishing with the most items overall, but we realized that she has two classes contributing to her boxes so that wasn’t really fair. So we then decided that Mrs. Nette should be pied because her class had the most items for a single class.  After some consideration, we decided that our older classes also have more students than our younger classes and they are bigger, stronger and can carry more food, so it was only fair that Ms. Hill also got pied for having the most items for a division 1 class.

We extend our most sincere gratitude to all the families that participated in this worthy event and thank our staff members for being such great sports.

An Invitation to Learn More About Your Students’ Mental Health

In CBE, we believe that you can inspire your kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors. However, in order to do so, the right tools and information are needed. That’s why we’re launching a new five-part web series.

On Dec. 6, the CBE’s Well-Being team will host a free online session with the Community Health Promotion Services Team from Alberta Health Services on the topic of student mental health.

You are invited to join us at the virtual session from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Health Measure Reminders

We continue to use a number of measures to reduce the impact of illnesses in schools such as high touchpoint cleaning and enhanced ventilation.

We would also like to remind everyone of health measures they can take to reduce transmission:

- If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them at home.

- Continue to wash hands frequently and cover coughs and sneezes.

- Students and staff can continue to make their own decision regarding masking. If your student would like a mask, we have several here at the school available.

We continue to follow the guidance and direction provided by Alberta Education and AHS. We are monitoring the issue carefully and will keep you updated as the situation evolves.
