Today the AM Kindergarten class learned all about Chinese New Year. We compared similarities and differences between Chinese New Year and a holiday that we celebrate. Ask your child to share a similarity that they discovered with you.

Here is some of the firework art that we completed to go along with our learning. 

In PE today we pretended to be different animals like butterflies, crabs, bunnies, and snakes. We moved by flying, crawling, hopping, and slithering around the gym.

Volunteer Request (Must have the full CBE clearance and double checked with the office) 

We will be starting Home Reading soon! Whoo hooo.  I am looking for a volunteer or 2 to support me with this from the PM class.  Ideally Tuesday's from 2:15-3:15 HOWEVER if you are available at a different time and would like to volunteer please email me and we can work together to figure it out. 

During centers today I spotted some friends who were transferring their letter printing to center time.  I LOVE when this starts to happen! 

NBEPA Casino Fundraiser 

We are still desperately short on volunteers for our New Brighton Elementary Parent’s Association (NBEPA) Casino coming up in less than a month on Feb. 2 and 3 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino. This is the single biggest fundraiser that occurs for the school and has provided every child in the school with several amazing opportunities and experiences that would not have happened otherwise. Our last Casino brought in more than our school’s annual operating budget and provided over $40,000 of residencies, guest speakers, new technology and programs, musical instruments, art supplies and more. These events benefit every single student in our school in numerous ways and we are in danger of losing our chance to host due to a lack of parent volunteers. 

Not only does it benefit our school tremendously, but it is also a fun evening where you can meet new people and enjoy a free meal during your shift. Bring a friend or a relative to volunteer, no experience is required. Don’t forget all volunteers will get a reserved front-row seat at the NBS Spring Concert.

Pink Shirts for Pink Shirt Day 

The New Brighton School Apparel online store is currently offering Pink Shirts for Pink Shirt day coming on February 23rd. Pink Shirt Day is intended to bring awareness and to stand up and put an end to bullying. The shirts have a kindness message and our school logo and will be for sale until Feb. 10th to ensure delivery before Feb. 23rd. If you are interested in ordering click here.
