Can you believe we are about to begin the last two months of kindergarten? We have been and will continue to be busy consolidating all of our learning through the year to best prepare for grade 1. Mrs. Hellyer and I feel strongly about sharing the learning that goes on in kindergarten as well expectations. That is why we post in our blogs so routinely, share curriculum newsletters, have conferences, send home assessments and post marks on Powerschool (a new set of marks go live tomorrow).
Sometime next week, your child will be bringing home a package full of assessment. This assessment will help guide us in our teaching for the next two months. We will continue to form lessons and build small groups to support our students learning and help them to grow in their confidence and understanding of the Kindergarten curriculum. Please note that this assessment coming home represents an end of kindergarten expectation, and we will be working on these expectations through to the end of the year.
Please take a close look through and see where you can help support your child. Perhaps it is playing rhyming games on the car ride home or breaking down words into sounds around the dinner table. Maybe, it’s pointing out capitals and periods in your nightly reading. You might write a sentence a day together focusing on using letter sounds or play a game of in/out to make 10.
When you are looking at the assessment, a green highlight indicates the student has already been successful meeting end of Kindergarten expectations in that specific area. Areas not marked indicate where the teacher will target your child’s learning moving forward to help them meet end of Kindergarten expectations.
ALL students have shown massive growth this year and this assessment does not speak to the wonderful personalities we get to experience every day.
