We spent some time putting the final touches on our art for the Art Walk which is coming up quick! The Art Walk is next Thursday evening.  We also enjoyed some outdoor time as well as free play!

See Below for the message from the office

Dear NBS Families,

This week marked our final day with our Artist in Residence Jennifer Stables. We were very fortunate to have such a talented individual work with all of our students on their special projects. Each grade chose a different medium including painting, batik’s, mosaics pottery and wet felting techniques and the results are fantastic. Make sure to save the date to come and check out the amazing work next Thursday, June 1st from 6:00-7:00 pm.

Thank you to our parent volunteers who handed out the spring plants and flowers for our Growing Smiles fundraiser on Wednesday. Our common area looked like a greenhouse and the wonderful scents they produced were far superior to last week’s forest fire smoke. What a difference a week can make.

We hosted our Kindergarten Orientation Thursday night for our next year’s kindergarten families. It was great to see some familiar families mixed in with some brand-new ones. We look forward to you joining the New Brighton School Community next August 31st!

Remember that Monday, May 29 is a Professional Development day so there is no school for students.

Art Walk

We will be hosting an Art Walk on the evening of Thursday, June 1st for families to come to their child’s classroom and see the art that they created with Jennifer Stables our Artist in Residence. The event will be from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. This will be a drop-in event that you can show up at any time between 6:00 when the doors open and prior to 7:00 when the event ends. We are asking that families enter through their child’s entry doors so that we do not have extra long lineups at the front door.

This is not intended to be parent-teacher interviews and there will be no performances. The entire building will be open to families of current students to walk through to their child(ren)’s classes. Staff will be present in the school and classroom, however, every child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their supervision.

We will be selling popcorn throughout the evening for $1 per bag in the school’s common area.

A reminder that the parking lot is for staff only and we ask families to walk or ride their bikes that night as parking around the school will be limited.

Sports Day

Save the date on June 2nd we will be hosting our annual Sports Day with an alternate date of June 16th if the weather does not cooperate on the 2nd. We will be needing parent volunteers with a current volunteer clearance to help make this event go smoothly as we will have all hands on deck to have as many stations as possible for the students to enjoy. If you are able to volunteer for the morning from 8:30-11:30, please contact the office at 403-817-3516 ext. 0 or by email at newbrighton@cbe.ab.ca .

It is important that all students wear loose, flexible clothing appropriate for the weather conditions of the particular day. Running shoes are required footwear. Sunscreen lotion and hats are also encouraged. Only rain or snow will cause us to postpone the event. Students will arrive at their normal time and report to their classes, as usual, AM kindergarten students are welcome to attend even though it is PM scheduled day. We will follow our usual start and end times for Fridays

New Brighton School Used Book Sale

New Brighton School will be hosting our second annual used book sale for students. From June 1st  until June 22nd, our school will be collecting gently used children’s books that are appropriate for children aged 5 to 11. Families can start bringing in used books on the night of our Art Walk. Below are some guidelines regarding book donations:

- Please make sure books are appropriate for children aged 5-11. This includes picture books and chapter books.

- Books need to be in good, used condition. This means no rips or stains.

- There is no limit to how many books can be donated. Students can either bring books into the classroom or donate them in a book bin at the front entrance each morning from June 1 until June 22th.

From June 26th to June 29th, students at New Brighton School will be given the opportunity to purchase books from our used book sale. Books will range in price from 25 cents to 5 dollars/per book. If you wish to have your child purchase a book, please send money in with your child in a small Ziploc bag on June 26-29 (ideally with their name labelled on it). The money collected will be used within the school to support student learning and will be used for new resources within the library.

Thank you for your support with New Brighton’s used book sale. We appreciate your support and book donations.

Are You Moving?
