A message from our practicum student, Ms. Russell
Hello families,
After the first week back at school I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself. My name is
Madison Russell and I will be a student teacher in your child’s Kindergarten classroom from now until
April. I am currently in my fourth year of the Bachelor of Education program at Mount Royal University
and this will be my last stepping stone before graduation. I am very excited to be working alongside Mrs.
Hughes at New Brighton School and am so very grateful as to how welcoming the Kindergarten
community has been!
A little bit about myself… I have lived in Calgary all my life and remember my years in elementary school
fondly, especially my Kindergarten experience. I have spent every summer in Invermere, B.C. where I
enjoy time by the lake, surfing, and spending time with my family. I have three younger siblings, a sister
and two brothers, whose hockey and ringette games are always fun to watch. I, on the other hand, prefer
water to be unfrozen as one of my passions is swimming. I have been teaching swimming lessons and
lifeguarding for the past four years now, which has kept me busy.
I am excited for all of the learning that is to come for not only the students, but myself as a teacher. I am
greatly looking forward to getting to know your child over the next few months and being a part of their
Kindergarten journey!
I also look forward to communicating with you, the parent community. Please stop and say hi!
My favourite place to spend the summer, Invermere, B.C.
This was me in kindergarten!
Today we had fun learning about the differences and similarities of Chinese New Year. Ask your child about something that is the same to a celebration that you celebrate. Here is some art we completed to go with our new learning.
