Open House Evening
We will be hosting an Open House on the evening of May 16th for families with the last names starting with the letters A-L and on May 17th for families with last names starting with letters M-Z. The event will be from 6:15 pm - 7:15 pm and is an opportunity for families to come in and tour our building. We recognize that many of our families have never stepped inside our building and we would love for you to come and see our beautiful spaces and the great work that goes on here.
This is not intended to be parent-teacher interviews and there will be no performances. The entire building will be open to families of current students to walk through and check things out. We are sure you will want to visit your student(s) classroom but feel free to check out any other classroom or learning space that you would like.
Staff will be present in the school and classroom, however, every child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their supervision.
New Brighton School Used Book Sale
New Brighton School will be hosting our very first used book sale for students. From May 16rd until May 20th, our school will be collecting gently used children’s books that are appropriate for children aged 5 to 11. Below are some guidelines regarding book donations:
- Please make sure books are appropriate for children aged 5-11. This includes picture books and chapter books.
- Books need to be in good, used condition. This means no rips or stains.
- There is no limit for how many books can be donated. Students can either bring books into the classroom or donate them in a book bin at the front entrance each morning from May 16 until May 20th.
On May 26th and May 27th, students at New Brighton School will be given the opportunity to purchase books from our used book sale. Books will range in price from 25 cents to 2 dollars/per book. If you wish to have your child purchase a book, please send money in with your child in a small ziplock bag on May 26/27 (ideally with their name labeled on it). The money collected will be used within the school to support student learning and will be used for new resources within the library.
Thank you for your support with New Brighton’s first-ever used book sale. We appreciate your support and book donations.
New Brighton Wellness Walk – May 19th to Mid-June
Mrs. Cose and Ms. MacDonald’s Grade 2 classes have worked hard to develop a special project for the community of New Brighton. Students have created art and videos for a Wellness Walk that will be set up throughout the community. There will be 9 stops on our Wellness Walk that will be set up on Wednesday, May 18th. A map will be sent out next week so please check it out to see where you can go to experience our special project around the community. We hope it brings you joy and appreciation for the wonderful community we call home.

Playground Access During School Hours
We have had several parents asking about access to our school playground during our school’s operational hours. The playground is used throughout the day for recess, lunch and some physical education classes. The playground is closed to the public during school hours as a safety precaution to prevent any potential collisions/interactions that could lead to injury. Students who are coming early for afternoon kindergarten or staying after morning kindergarten are under the supervision of their parents/guardians and are not considered to be in the school’s care during these times. If the playground is not being used at those times children with their parents are more than welcome to play in the park, but must leave once the students in attendance are coming out for their outdoor breaks. After 3:20 the playground is open to the public and is no longer supervised by New Brighton Staff.
